Developing Future Leaders for the Equine Industry
 

“Developing Future Leaders for the Equine Industry” is a new two-day Winter Session course geared toward individuals working to become involved in New Jersey’s equine industry. The course takes place in alternate years.  The next offering will be during Winter session 2012 on January 10 & 12 at Showplace Farms in Millstone Township.

Developed and offered by the Rutgers Equine Science Center, the one-credit course will bring together a team of instructors led by Dr. Karyn Malinowski, director of the Equine Science Center and Mary Nikola, Ed.D., director of leadership and organizational development at the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station.

What will be covered?

Topics will include the economic value of the equine industry, networking, relationship-building, decision-making strategies, leadership practices and behaviors, building coalitions, and industry management.

Who should attend?

Dr. Nikola, who teaches a two-year leadership development program through the New Jersey Agricultural Society, believes that the course will be especially invaluable to those adults who are committed to the future success of the equine industry in New Jersey. “This course is unique, in that it is focused entirely on equine interests and opportunities,” says Dr. Nikola. “In addition, it brings Karyn Malinowski to the classroom – and students are sure to be moved by the passion she brings for the horse industry to her teaching.”

How to Register

Undergraduate students registering for Winter semester will need permission to register online.  Students will receive one college credit upon successful completion of the course.  Please contact Dr. Karyn Malinowski at (848) 932-9419 or malinowski@njaes.rutgers.edu to receive the permission code needed to register online.

Adult learners will be able to register for the class through the Equine Science Center. A high school diploma is required for enrollment.

Tuition fee is $150. Note: Course fees must be paid in full prior to start of class.

Registrants for class will receive confirmation, campus map and directions to the course location upon receipt of registration.

Lifetime Learning Tax Credit

Now you can qualify for a new educational tax credit for tuition and fees paid for undergraduate, graduate and continuing education courses. Each family may claim a tax credit equal to 20 percent of the first $5,000 of educational expenses (for a maximum credit of $1,000) on its federal income tax. Eligible education expenses are offset by grants, scholarships, and employer-provided educational assistance. This tax credit is subject to income and other limitations.
